About Markie Robertson and his journey to create a global alumni platform for D. Twe Memorial High School:
The Story of Markie Robertson: From Social Media Plea to a Global Alumni Network
Markie Robertson’s journey began with a heartfelt plea—a social media post calling on the international community to help save one of Liberia’s most historic public schools, D. Twe Memorial High School, from being swallowed by the advancing sea. Nestled in Montserrado County, the school had long stood as a pillar of education and community, but coastal erosion threatened its very existence.
In his post, Markie didn't just talk about the problem—he showed the world where the school was by placing D. Twe Memorial High School on Google Maps. What seemed like a simple act would soon spark a powerful movement. Over the next three years, that Google Maps listing gained over 12,000 views, reconnecting the school to alumni and concerned citizens from all corners of the globe.
Alumni who hadn’t thought about D. Twe in years suddenly realized their beloved school was not only still standing—but in urgent need of support. Messages poured in. Offers to help. Donations. Questions. Ideas.
Markie saw something deeper in this moment. If a single map listing could reawaken such passion and unity among the D. Twe family, what more could they achieve with a platform built specifically for them?
That’s when the idea struck him: build a digital home for the global D. Twe community. A place not just for memories, but for action, connection, and growth.
And so, he launched a dedicated website and mobile app—a modern platform where alumni from around the world could:
Reconnect through built-in chat, posts, comments, and likes—reuniting old friends and forging new connections across continents.
Explore job opportunities shared by alumni and partners looking to give back.
Post and discover events, from reunions and fundraisers to mentorship meetups and webinars.
Celebrate achievements and tell the stories that keep the D. Twe spirit alive.
For Markie, this wasn’t just about tech—it was about honoring a legacy and building a future. His vision transformed a cry for help into a global network of empowered alumni, united not just by the school they attended, but by the belief that the community can overcome any challenge—together.
